Wingham Optometry Clinic has a long history of providing eye care to the community and surrounding area.

Dr. G.A. Williams originally provided optometry services for over 40 years in Wingham before selling the practice to Dr. Kevin Hagerman in 1990. Dr. Hagerman expanded the building to accommodate the needs of an increasing patient base and also allowed for more advanced equipment and services.

In 2011, Dr. Hagerman sold the practice to Dr. Laura McCarthy and Dr. Kathryn Alton. Dr. Hagerman did continue to work with Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Alton for several years, and retired from optometry in 2019.

Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Alton were classmates at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and graduated together as part of the Class of 2007. Dr. McCarthy grew up near Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Dr. Alton was raised near Lucknow. They quickly became friends in their first year of optometry, and at that time never would have expected to own practice the together! They both enjoyed playing for their class hockey team and other activities throughout their optometry school years.

Dr. Alton first joined the Wingham Optometry Clinic as a Co-Op Student in 1999 and continued to work each summer while in school. In 2009 she started working as an Associate Optometrist in the clinic, before purchasing the clinic with Dr. McCarthy in 2011.

In June of 2021, Dr. McCarthy became the sole owner of the clinic. 

Dr. McCarthy feels very fortunate to have Dr. Stephanie Doorn on staff, who joined the clinic in 2016 as an Associate Optometrist. Dr. Alton continues to care for her patients as well. 

The doctors and staff at Wingham Optometry Clinic are dedicated to providing the highest quality eye care and customer service to their patients. They have a great passion for helping people and look forward to continuing for years to come.
