Laser Eye Surgery to correct your vision so you no longer need glasses or contacts to see used to seem like something imaginary in the future, not for our lifetimes, and certainly not before the flying car! But lo and behold, technology has zoomed ahead, and it is now a viable option when discussing visual correction options.
It is designed to correct the distance prescripition, so when the upclose issues arise in the 40`s near glasses will usually be needed. The surgery isn`t appropritate for everybody, but the suitability for the procedures can be determined during the eye exam. You will note I said "procedures" because there are a number of different types of procedures depending on your prescription and eyes. These include LASIK, PRK, phakic lens implants, and clear lens extractions. The latter two allow for bifocal implants.
I personally remember when I had my eyes lasered about 10 years ago how it changed my life. I wasn`t able to wear contacts and had a very high prescription. Being into outdoor sports and water activities this was a game changer. No longer was I lost on a beach trying to find my way back after a swim in the lake or ocean. So many sports were now open to me with much less hassle. But what suprised me even more was the feeling of freedom and the improved sense of self by being free of the thick glasses I had worn for so many years.
Once deciding to proceed with laser vision correction I always advise my patients that this is eye surgery....so do it right. Go with the most experienced surgeon using the latest technology. As updating lasers can cost up form $500,000 to 1 million dollars be careful when looking for a "deal"...you want the best and you want it done right.
If you have questions about laser vision correction , ask me so I can determine your suitability.
